What I have learned about ADhD
I am not a licensed clinician, therapist, psychiatrist, or medical professional. Everything shared on this page — including routines, tools, strategies, medications, and supplements — reflects my personal lived experience with ADHD and may not be appropriate or effective for everyone.
ADHD is complex, and each person’s needs are different. Before starting, stopping, or changing any medication or supplement, please speak with your doctor, psychiatrist, or another qualified healthcare professional. Nothing here is intended to diagnose, treat, or replace professional medical guidance.
10 years later I definitely feel that I overthink and always thought that it was just anxiety or past trauma and truth is it’s more than that. In the last few years I’ve discovered a lot about myself and one thing is I have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). I still don’t know all there is to know about it or my ADHD but the more I learn the more makes sense.
I am on medication which at first kind I was prescribed Strattera (atomoxetine) which didn’t work well for me. Now I have been on Adderall (d-amphetamine salt combo).
5-MTHF (L-Methylfolate): My GeneSight test showed I have the C/T MTHFR C677T variant — a genetic pattern that makes it harder for my body to convert folic acid. For years I didn’t know why I felt foggy, overwhelmed, or emotionally flooded. This one test explained it: my brain wasn’t getting the active folate it needed to make dopamine, serotonin, and nor-epinephrine (chemicals that affect mood, focus, motivation, and emotional regulation). Once I switched to 5?MTHF, the active form, things finally started to make sense. My brain could actually use what I was giving it.
L-Theanine: (an amino-acid naturally found in green tea and matcha has most concentrated) Which supports smoother focus, reducing anxiety, less sensory overwhelm and reduced side affects.
Saffron Extract: This supplement comes from the Crocus sativus flower which helps with mood balance, emotional regulation, cognitive clarity, sleep quality and helps reduce stress. It appears to increase serotonin modulation and protect the serotonin receptors and reduces re-uptake and assists with dopamine regulation (motivation, reward sensitivity and emotional steadiness) In addition to that Saffron has anti-inflammatory affects which reduce oxidative stress in brain to help with cognitive fog, stress related fatigue and emotional volatility. Some research suggests that it can also help protect neurons from stress and inflammation.
Vitamin D3 & K2: I take 5000IU + Vitamin K 100mcg in the morning & 2000IU Vitamin D3 at night. Vitamin D3 supports mood, cognition, and neurotransmitter regulation. K2 helps D3 work properly and prevents calcium replacement. Together they can support emotional regulation, executive function, inflammation, sleep and dopamine pathways. It helps combat emotional dysregulation, fatigue, brain fog, etc.
Vitamin C (Ester-C): Vitamin C plays a direct role in how the brain uses the neurotransmitters that MTHFR affects. Because my MTHFR C/T variant slows the methylation process, my brain needs extra support to make and regulate dopamine, nor-epinephrine, and serotonin
Fish Oil – EPA & DHA help brain synthesize and regulate dopamine, the neurotransmitter ADHD meds target. Low omega-3 levels correlate worse attention, mood, working memory. It also improves neuron communication and helps reduce inflammation. It also supports attention & reduces inattention and improves working memory and learning.
