Thank You for the Memories: A Granddaughter’s Love Letter

?I’m so grateful to have had 52 years as your Granddaughter. You have taught me so many things throughout the years, and I remember so much. I remember practicing ABC’s and I remember being in the kitchen with you, helping you cook or just watching you and listening to your stories. So many stories, so much love you gave me and instilled into me, and I’m forever grateful. I know this is not goodbye, but a farewell for now.

Thank you for the countless hours we have spent on the phone with each other through the years, for always making time for me and helping me with whatever it was. Thank you for your chicken noodle soup with dumplings and for giving me that gift… even though I’ve tweaked it slightly, the base is all from you. Whenever I’m in the kitchen cooking, I think of you, and when I’m watching a show or I see something that I think you might like, I think of you.

Thank you for all your encouragement and for being the beautiful light that has shone brightly, and no matter what you think will not dim, you’ve merely passed your light into us and showed us how to use it. So I will carry that light with me, for I don’t know how long until one day when we meet up once again. I love you more than words can say, every day and to the moon and beyond. But now it is time that you rest and be at peace, and without pain.

**I originally wrote this for my Grandmother while she was still with us and my Aunt Jeanne read the letter to her for me and during the funeral service I gave it to the Pastor to read after he had already went through parts of the obituaries that I wrote for my aunt Suzie and for my Grandmother.
